Meet Dr. Austin Schmalz

The Professional Side

Dr. Schmalz grew up in Fargo, ND where he attended NDSU for mechanical engineering degree. After briefly working in the biomedical field in St. Paul, MN, Dr. Schmalz was drawn to the dental field by his older sister (periodontist) and his desire to help patients directly. Dr. Schmalz has practiced in South Dakota since graduating from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 2015.

Dr. Schmalz is passionate about enhancing his clinical skills through continuing education ensuring his ability to apply advanced clinical solutions in meeting patient needs. He completes numerous courses every year through the Misch International Institute, Spear, Implant Pathway, University of Minnesota, American Academy of Implant Dentistry, Pikos Institute, zero bone loss concepts, and routinely visits national dental conventions with interest in developing technologies to provide superior care. Dr. Schmalz has owned and operated a large dental practice in Rapid City, SD since 2017 and has transitioned out of big corporate operated dental practice for numerous reasons.
